Not all home inspections are created equally!!  It is a good idea to compare inspection reports with other inspectors in the area.  This will allow you to at least know what you can expect for your time and money.  As a home inspector, I understand that my clients not only want quality inspections, but also detailed easy to read reports with full color digital photographs, not to mention the importance of good customer service.

A competent home inspector today does not produce handwritten reports.  Times have changed and technology has advanced.  A professional inspector will provide you with a combination of a checklist and a narrative report, with digital photographs of the issues discovered during the inspection.
